Our History

who we are

L’Aiguillage, is a non-profit organization. It was founded in 1993 by two social workers, Mrs. Diane LaSalle and Mr. Bertrand Myre.

L'Aiguillage is a non-profit organization.

It was founded in 1993 by two volunteers, who were already working in the field. Through their already existing involvement, they found that there was a reality of marginalization, mainly among young people. The Referral was born to do front-line intervention as well as outreach work with these people.

Our team consists of professionals from various educational backgrounds in psycho-social healthcare with a passion for helping people while taking a clinical approach to homelessness and social issues.

Today,

L’Aiguillage has three components: street work, emergency shelter and Residential stability. Through these three components, street workers, emergency shelter workers and S.R.A. are present and available for people living in various situations.

Thank you for allowing me to reside here! Even if it was for a short stay. You have been a great help to me, you have made me reflect and go after my goals, you are a wonderful and magnificent team! Thank you

L’Aiguillage was a lifeline for me, it allowed me to stay in a warm and lively place. The energy that emanates from this place is full of hope for us who have an incredible pain to live. Despite our distinct sufferings, I am convinced that we will come out of here stronger and determined to continue our journey of our respective destinies on the right path of hope.

A big thank you to all the counselors who allowed me to walk and grow with the hope of becoming a new person in a future life.

A special thank you to John and all of you the beautiful Aiguillage gang for such a warm welcome. I will never forget you and you will all be in my heart forever. To Bagheera everyone’s favorite dog for her warm hugs which we love very much.

Thank you to all the Aiguillage team for giving me the chance to have a roof during the most difficult period of my life, I always felt welcome at your shelter, without judgment you opened the door for me despite the difficulties I was experiencing, as soon as I arrived, I already felt at home with a warm and human welcome with impeccable respect, your sincere and honest listening, you gave me the chance to feel important for once in my life. Whoops! A hundred times and more. Outside life has not always been easy for me, I spent days, evenings and nights all alone crying under the St-Charles bridge without seeing someone I can trust to talk to, I felt so alone to face my difficulties, my addiction, and my desire to end this life which was for me a full-time fight. Here you have always accepted me as I am, despite my mood swings, you gave me the right to be who I am by being myself and unlike the street, I found my smile, my crazy laughter all while being warm and safe and above all to find a taste for life and a meaning to my new life, it was very important for me, here I realized that I was worth it. When I arrived on December 1st, I was on the ground, I had just realized that with my family, I was just garbage that was thrown on the side of the street, it made me so sad, that I was trying to convince myself that I was nothing in life. I found myself really alone in the world Thank you for opening your door to me and making me feel that I was someone and that I was worth it. Today I leave with a feeling of success and above all I have found the strength and courage to face my new life. I leave you with a twinge in my heart but it’s time for me to spread my own wings, thank you to all the counselors and my favorite friend and confidante Bagheera and a special thank you to John my god of the street, you are a special and wonderful man thank you for being there for us and takes care of my little Bagheera. I love you all. Bibi Xxx
